Having a problem with the car staying "awake" and drawing the battery causing the Active Steering function to disable. The car does start and after driving the car for 30 seconds, the active steering re engages, but the same problem exists each time the car is started. The car has comfort access , and the keys are not left in the car keeping it "awake", but something obvioulsy is keeping the battery going. I've had it in the shop twice now, and this time, it's been in there for an entire week, being monitored in the "ICU with heart monitors 24/7" and they still cant figure out what is drawing on the battery. Any ideas out there?

The X5, 5 Series, 6 Series and 7 Series all have very (overly) complicated electrical systems. Both my 2007 & 2008 X5 (E70) had/have horrible electrical problems. You can try locking the car at night. For many (oddly, not all) locking the car when parked at night, or during the day while at work/home)...locking the car puts the car to sleep. It's worth a shot. BMW makes such great cars, it's really a shame that they are really starting to be overshadowed by their numerous computer related problems! Good Luck!
