bmwarchiv.de, a website known for its accurate reports, says the new BMW M2 will have a production run from 2015 to 2020. In the past, when BMW sources spoke to BMWBLOG, the M2 production availability topic has always come up. Our sources refrained from calling the M2 a limited edition model and focused rather on the message of production limitation.

Despite its considerably wider wheel arches, the BMW M2 can be mixed on the production line with the civilian variants of BMW 2 Series Coupe and Convertible, as well as BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW 1 Series five-door model. 750 cars per day can be produced per day at the Leipzig plant, and more than 100 BMW i3 and 20 BMW i8. The BMW M2 Coupe will account only for a small percentage.

BMW M2 uses a brand-new six-cylinder in-line engine, with M TwinPower Turbo technology and three-liter displacement, develops 272 kW/370 hp with peak torque of 465 Nm / 343 lb-ft.

Peak torque of 465 Nm (343 lb-ft) can be increased to as much as 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) in short bursts under overboost.

With the optional M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) in place and Launch Control activated, BMW M2 sprints from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds (4.5 s with the six-speed manual gearbox). The top speed of the new BMW M2 is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). If the M Driver?s Package ? which includes a BMW Driving Experience voucher for a track training course ? is specified, this cut-off point doesn?t arrive until 270 km/h (168 mph).

The BMW M2 Coupe will celebrate its market debut in April 2016 and will be sold in Germany at prices starting at 56,700 euros.
