I replaced the stock HK unit with a new Pioneer. The new unit powers up fine but with a CD running there's no sound.

Is there a radio security code I should have punched in prior to taking out the HK unit?

Or do I need to do something with Pin 4, Telephone Mute Feature, that I didn't use?

Or do I need to something with Pin 7, I Bus Connection, also not used?

I'm hoping it's something obvious but I haven't a clue as to what I did wrong.

I am not familiar with the Z3, I think that's what you have? But I may be able to give you some clues.

In the E36 3 series, there is an factory amp in the rear trunk. If you simply hook the speaker wires out of the new head unit to the "speaker wires" that were connected to the old head unit, it will not work. You need to either bypass the factory amp, or get a special converter that changes the speaker output to "line" level.

i used the speaker level outputs to the factory amp when i installed my rock/fos head unit. it worked fine but i didn't get sound until i made connection between the power antenna "power out" wire to the wire that powers up the stock amp.
